Food drive covers island Saturday

Hawaii Food Bank is holding its islewide food drive 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday throughout Oahu. Its goal this year is to raise 500,000 pounds of food and $500,000.

Donations of canned food and cash will be accepted at Restaurant Row, Koko Marina Center, McCully Shopping Center, Nanakuli Super, Pearl City Shopping Center, Pearl Highlands Center, Tamura Superette, Towne Center of Mililani, Waianae Mall Shopping Center, Waianae Store Waiokeola Congregational Church in Kahala and Windward City Shopping Center.

Food donations only will be received at Barbers Point Commissary, Hickam Air Force Base Commissary, Marine Corps Base Hawaii (Kaneohe) Commissary and Pearl Harbor Naval Base Commissary.

Cash donations only will be taken at various street intersections throughout Oahu from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Restaurant Row will have entertainment all day beginning at 9 a.m. Koko Marina Center (which will feature a canned-food sculpture contest), McCully Shopping Center and Windward City Shopping Center will also feature entertainment.

The food bank says the most needed items include monetary contributions, canned meats or tuna, canned meals such as spaghetti and chili, canned soups and canned fruits and vegetables.

Other food bank drives on Saturday include:

» Bishop Museum Bake for Hunger: Bake sale 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YMCA Healthy Kids Day. Free admission with a canned good.

» Aloha Stadium Drive-In Movie: Screening of “;The Blind Side,”; starring Sandra Bullock, at 7 p.m. Make a canned-food donation either at the swap meet or the movie and receive free admission.

 

How to beat the Tax Day blues

Dine away the Tax Day blues at P.F. Chang's Hokua location on Thursday, when the restaurant offers customers 15 percent off each order “;to celebrate the end of tax season.”;

Billed a “;Tax Relief”; promotion, the one-day offer applies to everything except happy-hour specials and alcohol purchases.
