Warriors stay at No. 5 in poll

The Hawaii men's volleyball team remained at No. 5 for a second week in the AVCA Coaches Division I-II Top 15 poll released yesterday.

The Warriors (17-8, 13-7 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) received one of the 16 first-place votes. Hawaii had a bye last week and concludes the MPSF regular season with two matches at No. 9 UC Santa Barbara.

Stanford stayed at No. 1, receiving 14 votes, while BYU stayed at No. 2, getting the last vote. Pepperdine and Cal State Northridge were tied at No. 3.

Hawaii has clinched an MPSF playoff berth and can secure hosting a first-round match with two victories at UCSB.

 

Kua tied for 55th at golf tourney

Hawaii's T.J. Kua shot a 4-over 74 and a 3-over 75 yesterday and is tied for 55th place at the U.S. Intercollegiate golf tournament at Palo Alto, Calif.

Kua is 13 strokes behind leader Nick Taylor of Washington, who shot 68 twice and is at 4-under 136.

Washington and San Diego State are tied for the team lead at 2-over 562. Hawaii is 63 shots off the pace in 20th place at 625.

 

UHH in eighth after 2 rounds

Hawaii-Hilo is in eighth place after two rounds of the Henry Stanislaus Invitational at Turlock, Calif.

Neil Cabico of the Vulcans is at 2-over 146 and tied for 10th place, heading into the final round. He's 11 shots behind individual leader Gene Webster Jr. who is at 9-under 135 after a 67 yesterday.

Host Cal State Stanislaus leads the team field at 582. Hawaii-Hilo is at 597.
