18 girls, 4 boys to represent Hawaii at Intel science fair

Twenty-two student scientists—18 girls and four boys—will represent Hawaii in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair May 9-14 in San Jose, Calif.
The delegation will include winners of the state Science and Engineering Fair and district fairs affiliated with Science Service and the 2010 International Science and Engineering Fair. Science teachers will accompany the students.
Finalists going from the state fair: Kang Ying (Connie) Liu and the team of Sarah Tamashiro and Lindsay Fujimoto, all of St. Andrew's Priory. Also, Science Teachers of the Year award recipients: Michael Sana of Waipahu High School and Nel Venzon of Mililani High School.
East Hawaii: teacher Steven Zeiher of Waiakea Intermediate.
Hilo: Nolan Kamitaki and Mali'o Kodis, both of Waiakea High School, and Megan Kurohara and Hannah Rojeski of Hilo High.
Kauai: Issaca Hoglen, Megan Walsh and the team of Ashley Bonilla, Alyssa Braun and Meghan Fujimoto of Kauai Intermediate and High School. Also, teachers Barbara Baker of Kapaa High School and James Cox and Kevin Johnson of Kauai Intermediate and High School.
Leeward Oahu: Genardine Arizala and the team of Ilora Mendoza, Rizzaly Agustin and Michelle Tagapuen, all of Waipahu High School.
Maui: team of Michael Flynn and Taylor Nakamura of Maui High School.
Hawaii Association of Independent Schools: Amelia Harvey, Kamehameha School, Kapalama; Travis Le, Punahou; the team of Diana Cabral and Noelle Owen, St. Andrew's Priory; and teachers Michael Grech of St. Andrew's and Lawrence Mordan, Kamehameha-Kapalama High School.
