Merrie Monarch has new Web site

The Merrie Monarch Festival has a new Web site—www.merriemonarch.com—thanks to funding by Hawaiian Airlines.

The festival officially began Sunday with a hoolaulea, while the hula competition is scheduled for today to Saturday at Edith Kanaka'ole Stadium in Hilo.

Besides a live television broadcast on KFVE-TV, the Web site will include video and photos, plus historical and contemporary information, telling the story of the festival.

Some backstage videos are already available on the site, with new photos and videos to be added throughout the week. A selection of 2010 festival DVDs, T-shirts, posters and products will also be available on the site.

WHAT'S IN STORE?

Philip Rickard unveils 7 collections

Philip Rickard Honolulu has unveiled its new spring collections, and with seven new collections in addition to lines already available, there's something to suit many personalities and pocketbooks.

One of the most fun is the Puanani Collection (pieces pictured). True to the name that translates as “;beautiful flowers,”; multicolored enamel in a combination of bright and pastel spring colors bursts into life against a background of 14K yellow gold Old English scrolls. Color combinations can be customized to reflect individual preferences.

Of interest to collector types is the Nostalgia Collection inspired by floral motifs popular during the 1940s and '50s. The collection's inaugural pieces have an anthurium motif, featured in sterling silver earrings, pendants, rings and bracelets.

Other collections pay tribute to the haku lei, filigree open work, young jewelry lovers, Old English letters cut from metal instead of being filled in with enamel, and blossoming love as reflected in Pua Mae'ole wedding bands marked by flowers blooming with diamond centers. The wedding bands can be made in yellow, white, green or pink gold, or platinum.

The Honolulu jewelry designer is also in the enviable position of having created George Clooney's “;wedding band”;—don't get too excited—for “;The Descendants”; film being shot on Oahu.

Check out the collections at Philip Rickard stores at Ala Moana Center (third floor, Nordstrom wing and at the ground level near Centerstage), Royal Hawaiian Center (third floor, C building and ground floor, A building) and Hyatt Waikiki. Or look online at www.philiprickard.com.
