UH's Kaufman sets record

Hawaii high jumper Amber Kaufman broke the 27-year-old Clarence T.C. Ching Field record of 6 feet, 1 inch (set by Debbie Brill of Canada in 1983) with a jump of 6-1.25 during the weekend's Rainbow Relays.

Personal bests were achieved by Lauren Cutler (142-2 in the javelin; second in the event), TeRina Keenan (44-9.75 in the shot put; and she also won the discus with a throw of 162-9) and Samantha Balentine (26.93 in the 200-meter dash).

Sacramento State beat Hawaii in the team competition, 126-76.

The Rainbow Wahine will compete next weekend at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz.

 

Wahine bats stay hot on road

The Hawaii softball team remained undefeated in WAC play with a 13-1 victory over New Mexico State in Las Cruces yesterday.

The game was shortened due to the mercy rule. Stephanie Ricketts (13-6, 4-0) threw a two-hitter and struck out two while only facing 18 batters.

The Wahine stay on the road for a three-game series against Utah State (14-15, 3-2) starting tomorrow.

 

UH tops Idaho in WAC tennis

Hawaii defeated Idaho 4-2 in women's tennis yesterday in San Jose, Calif.

Barbara Pinterova, Sophie Kobuch, Natasha Zorec and Alyssa Nafarrete picked up singles wins for the Rainbow Wahine (7-12, 2-2 WAC).

Doubles were not played due to inclement weather.

 

Hawaii second in regatta

The Hawaii coed sailing team finished second at the St. Francis Invitational in San Francisco over the weekend, and the UH women's team placed ninth.

The coed team was just 14 points away from winner Cal Maritime. Stanford won the women's race.
