Auto Lunch Bunch a real gas

POSTED: Thursday, April 01, 2010

Oahu's monthly Auto Lunch Bunch was started by automotive media men Ed Kemper and Bill Maloney a few years ago as a way to, as Kemper put it, “;get the gear-heads together”; and geek out, automotively speaking, over lunch.

“;Bill had experience with a similar group on the mainland ... and they have a luncheon every month and bring in a speaker and show off some cars,”; Kemper said. The thought for the local version was to keep things loose, with “;no rules, no memberships, no nothing,”; he added.

The men are friendly competitors, each producing and/or hosting local fossil-fuel-focused fare on television. Maloney is a veteran of motorsports-related media and executive producer of and commentator on “;Ohana Road”; on KITV, while Kemper is an attorney who hosts “;Island Driver TV”; on Oceanic Time Warner Cable's OC 16. Both write auto-related columns for local publications.

The group meets at noon on the first Tuesday of each month at Waikiki Yacht Club and this Tuesday's lunch bunch will be about Ford Racing.

The owners of a Ford GT, a Cobra 427 and a Cobra Coupe will present the Kars at the Kurb display and car dealer Mike McKenna will be featured speaker.
