Boutique puts vintage out there

Catherine Fong took a certain amount of pride in her boutique Catherine's Closet's status as one of Oahu vintage shoppers' best-kept secrets.

But accolades don't pay the bills, so with her recent move from Manoa, she's putting her vintage dresses, jewelry, hats and accessories out where they'll be seen by thousands of eyeballs everyday in downtown Honolulu.

“;No more hiding away in my treasure chest in the Manoa attic,”; she says. “;I loved every moment of it but now it is time to be found,”;

Her new boutique is at 125 Merchant St., around the corner from the Bishop Street Starbucks. She suggests parking at the Chinatown Gateway lot across from Macy's.

Her store opens just in time for Easter, with a hat bar bearing more than 300 hats, ranging from frothy Easter bonnets to headwear for Red Hat Society members, and men's fedoras as well.

She'll be presenting informal modeling during a grand opening from 4 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, with refreshments and door prizes.

Her store hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Fridays and by appointment. Call 386-2746.

Prom event at Neiman Marcus

Neiman Marcus is hosting the Prom Event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and April 10, featuring informal modeling of the hottest prom looks for Spring 2010, cool beats and sweet treats in its Prom Lounge on Level Two.
