Ricketts earns WAC honor
Two conference wins over the weekend earned Hawaii sophomore Stephanie Ricketts her second Western Athletic Conference softball pitcher of the week honor of the season.
Ricketts threw a season-high 10 innings in a 3-2 complete-game win over San Jose State on Friday. She then tossed 6 2/3 innings of shutout ball in a 7-1 win in the series finale on Saturday. Ricketts (11-6, 2.36 ERA) struck out eight, allowed one earned run and held the Spartans to a .175 average in the series.
The Wahine (25-11, 3-0 WAC) depart tomorrow on a three-series road trip to New Mexico State, Utah State and Boise State.
Eggens named player of the week
Hawaii sophomore attacker Monika Eggens was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation water polo player of the week yesterday.
Eggens scored a total of 23 goals in six Rainbow Wahine victories on the mainland. She recorded a hat trick in all six games and leads the conference with 50 goals for the season.
Hawaii is 15-6 overall and 3-2 in MPSF play. It will host Stanford in its next game April 11.
Isle surfers alive Down Under
Hawaii's Carissa Moore, Coco Ho and Melanie Bartels advanced to the third round of the Rip Curl Women's Pro in Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia, yesterday.
All three surfers finished second in their heats, qualifying them for a spot in today's third round. Bartels had the highest score of the three, scoring a 12.27.
Hawaii golf team tied for sixth
The Hawaii women's golf team is tied for sixth place after two rounds of the Anteater Invitational in Dove Canyon, Calif.
Freshman Ka'ili Britos leads the Wahine at 11-over 153. She began the second round in sixth place after shooting a 73, but her second-round 80 dropped her to 16th place.

HPU's Musquiz is lights out
Hawaii Pacific senior Sherise Musquiz was named to the Mizuno Tournament of Champions all-tournament team yesterday.
Musquiz went 4-0 with a save and a 0.84 ERA in five appearances. She helped guide the Sea Warriors to a berth in the semifinals after finishing in first place in pool play.
Musquiz leads the PacWest with 18 wins and a 0.76 ERA.
HPU blanks Grossmont twice
The Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team defeated Grossmont College 9-0 and 6-0 yesterday at the Central Oahu Regional Park Tennis Complex.
The Vulcans (18-3) face Division I foes Utah State and Idaho this week, beginning with the Aggies on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Diego Miranda picked up the Seasiders' only win in the No. 5 singles position.
