Coaches headline QB Club

Punahou baseball coach Eric Kadooka and Alan Masui, the girls basketball coach at Sacred Hearts, are the featured speakers at tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon.

Under Kadooka, the Buffanblu have won six consecutive state championships. Masui's Lancers won the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Division II championship.

Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Maple Garden restaurant. The program follows at noon.

UH wins 2 at ASU tourney

Monika Eggens scored four goals and Amarens Genee added two to lead the fifth-ranked Hawaii women's water polo team to a 9-5 victory over host Arizona State in the ASU Invitational yesterday in Tempe, Ariz.

Serena Bredin had 12 saves for the Rainbow Wahine against the seventh-ranked Sun Devils. Hawaii (12-6) rolled past Cal Baptist 12-6 in its second game, with Eggens the leading scorer with three.

The Wahine conclude the tournament with matches today against Concordia and Santa Clara.

UH tennis blanks 'Swords

The Hawaii women's tennis team won its third consecutive match yesterday, shutting out Chaminade at the UH tennis complex 7-0.

The Rainbow Wahine (5-11) dropped a combined five games in the three doubles matches and won all six singles matches in straight sets. The Silverswords (8-8) are ranked No. 43 in NCAA Division II.

HPU and Hawaii-Hilo go for tourney title

Maile Kim's sacrifice fly in the top of the third scored Ciera Senas with what proved to be the deciding run, and the third-ranked Hawaii Pacific softball team held off No. 14 Sonoma State 2-1 in the Mizuno Tournament of Champions in Turlock, Calif.

The Sea Warriors also defeated Cal State East Bay 6-1 to win their pool (4-1) and advance to today's gold-medal bracket.

Also advancing to today's gold-medal bracket was Hawaii-Hilo, which finished second in its pool. The Vulcans won both games via shutout, blanking host CSU Stanislaus 5-0 and edging Chico State 1-0 on an unearned run in the third.

Chaminade will compete in the bronze bracket. The Silverwords defeated Humboldt State 4-0, lost to CSU Stanislaus 8-1 and San Francisco State 1-0 to finish fifth in its pool.

UHH baseball earns split with Grand Canyon

Kekoa Lee's two-run single highlighted a five-run fourth and Hawaii-Hilo held on to beat Grand Canyon 8-4 in the second game of a PacWest baseball doubleheader in Phoenix.

The Vulcans (7-18, 3-13) dropped the opener 8-4.

Aaron Correa picked up the complete-game win, holding Grand Canyon (20-17, 11-9) scoreless until the bottom of the fifth.

Seasiders tennis wins 18th straight

No. 3 Brigham Young-Hawaii (18-0) remained undefeated with its 18th consecutive women's tennis match, defeating Georgia Southwestern State 8-1 in Americus, Ga., yesterday.

The Seasiders won five of six singles 6-0, 6-0.

The Seasider men (12-1) also defeated GSS yesterday, winning 9-0.
