Dog shot, man arrested in gunfight with 2 men
Police arrested a 57-year-old man in connection with a gunbattle in Waianae that ended when the man's dog was shot during an attempted armed robbery in Waianae.
Police said two men in their 20s went to the victim's home at 86-122 Pokai Bay St. and demanded money with a handgun about 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The 57-year-old man who lived in the home ran inside and heard at least three gunshots before arming himself with a pistol and firing two shots through his window, police said.
After the shooting, the man went outside and found that the suspects had shot his pit bull, police said.
Officers opened a robbery investigation to find the two suspects. But they also arrested the 57-year-old man for firearms violations and reckless endangering.
Police held the man yesterday for federal authorities, who were apparently conducting their own investigation.
