He kanikau no ka makuahine aloha

Synopsis: This is a “kanikau” or chant of lamentation, for our beloved mother, Charlotte Patrice Kalamanamana Hideko Ukishima Wengler, who recently passed.

No Kalāmanamana

'Auhea wale 'oe e ka makuahine, ke kama no Pāwa'a.

Wa'awa'a ka noho paipai ua pā, 'o Kalāmanamana kou inoa.

He manamana a pa'a ke kumu i uka o Wailupe.

He manamana nā lālā he 'umi kūmākahi.

He manamana ho'i nā pua he iwakālua kūmāiwa.

He iwakālua kūmāiwa e ola ai nā iwi ou.

Kau kou inoa i ka hano.

Ka leo hano o ka hale.

Hanohano kō kūlana kaikamahine, makuahine, kupunahine.

Hanohano ka lokomaika'i i ka ho'olako mea'ai.

Hanohano ka mea 'ono pūpū 'ai pineki.

Hanohano ke ahonui i ka hana na'aupō a ke keiki.

Hanohano ka leo hāwanawana i ka pepeiao.

Hanohano ka pā lahilahi o ka lima makuahine o ke aloha.

Hanohano ka lima ikaika o ka 'iniki ha'awina o ke aloha.

Hanohano ka na'auao Kalikiano.

Hanohano ka wai kuawa i 'ono nā hoaaloha.

Hanohano kou aloha ē.

'Eha'eha ka na'au i ka hali'a aloha o kou nani ē.

Ua nani 'o Lē'ahi i ka welo o ka lā i Lehua.

Hua 'ole ke kumu kuawa punahele i kou ha'alele.

Ha'alele pū nā koholā, 'a'ole kaulele hou.

Lele na'e ka hanu o kō kino.

Kaulele maila ka 'iwa kaulana 'o Kāhala.

Hala pū ka nani o Puahia.

Hihia ka na'au, ho'okē 'ai.

'Ai mehameha kō kaina, kō kōko'olua, kō hoa wala'au.

'Ano 'ē ka la'i hale i ke ke'ehi 'ole o kou kalipa. 'A'ohe mea e komo like i ke kalipa 'olu'olu.

Kāhea kūmākena nā leo kapalili, nā leo ha'eha'e i kou nani ē.

'A'ole hākālia pau kēia ka'awale, he ka'awale ma ke kino wale nō.

Na'au'auā ka no'ono'o i kou ha'alele 'ana aku ho'i i ke Analipo, ke Analilo ē.

Auē ua lilo ē.

Ha'eha'e wale ka na'au i ke aloha ē.

E huli iā Ha'eha'e i ka wena 'ula o ka lā.

Ka lā i luna o Ka'ū, 'āina kua makani.

Aloha.

Huli ho'i i ke Kua o Kāne

iā Wiliwili nui, kahi i hi'ipoi 'ia ai mākou i kou umauma.

Aloha.

A laila, i Pāwa'a kahi i hānau 'ia ai 'oe.

Aloha.

A i Kaua'i i ka mole o Lehua.

Huli, Aloha.

Hele 'oe i ke ala ho'i 'ole mai, ke kahua o Mali'o.

Hele a noho i ka maluhia o Iehowa,

Ka Haku o ka lani me ka honua,

Me kāna po'e 'ānela hemolele kini a lehu 'oe e huli ai.

A me ka 'ohana, kou mau mākua, nā kūpuna ho'i e hele a noho.

Oia mau nō kou aloha me mākou nei.
