Hips will be swaying as “;bachata”; pop artist Domenic Marte takes the stage at Pipeline Cafe this weekend.
“;People better be ready to get up and start dancing. I'll be performing lots of soulful songs that touch the heart,”; he said of bachata, music of the Caribbean, with beats similar to merengue and salsa.
Marte began singing with small groups in his youth and grew up to work with Jennifer Lopez and other artists who helped “;open doors.”;
His mother is from Puerto Rico and his father, the Dominican Republic, which explains his musical choices, even though Marte was born and raised in Massachusetts.

“;My father was always on top of me, telling me, 'You need to work, work, work and something good will happen.' Music has always been in my blood,”; Marte said.
Marte's debut album came out in 2004 and featured hits like “;Ven Tu,”; a Top 10 hit on the Latin Tropical Airplay chart.
In addition to performing, Marte also produced and wrote six of the 13 songs on his second Spanish-language album, “;Deseos de Amarte.”; Only one of the tracks is performed in English. The tunes feature a variety of musical styles from Latin pop and bachata to R&B.
His music can be found at J&N Records, and his new exclusive song, “;Ese Soy Yo”; remix, will be available through digital download in about a month. Marte is also working on finishing a new album by year's end.
Marte's world tours include stops across the mainland, Spain, Colombia, Italy, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and he says, “;Filling stadiums is cool stuff.”;
“;I'm an artist with a lot of energy. I'm really excited to bring my style of music to Hawaii.”;
