Woman falls from hotel; man held
Big Island police are holding a 58-year-old San Jose, Calif., man in connection with the death of a 52-year-old woman from the mainland who apparently fell to her death at a Kailua-Kona hotel.
Police said other hotel guests heard a heated argument coming from the man's second-floor room at about 10:20 p.m. Saturday before the woman fell from the lanai onto the rocks below.
Police are withholding the woman's name pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death.

Big Island fire inspectors have determined that a house blaze in Pahoa was of suspicious origin.
The fire Saturday at 15-0581 S. Puni Mauka Loop caused $110,000 in damage to a three-bedroom house.
The house was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at 8:36 p.m. The fire was under control at 8:50 p.m., officials said.
Man injured jumping off sea wall
A man who appeared to be in his 60s was in critical condition yesterday after jumping off the Kapahulu Groin.
The man hurt himself after jumping off the jetty in Waikiki at about 10:45 a.m., said Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokesman Bryan Cheplic.
Rescue crews kept busy with hikers
Fire rescue crews responded to calls for help from hikers in three separate incidents on Oahu yesterday.
Crews airlifted a male from Laie Falls after he injured his legs and was unable to make the 3.5-mile hike out, said Fire Capt. Terry Seelig.
A fire rescuer rappelled down and lifted the man up to a helicopter, which took him to paramedics.
Two hikers called for help from Maunawili Demonstration Trail at about 7:30 p.m., said Seelig. A helicopter crew had the GPS location of the hikers, who were behind Luana Hills Country Club, and was trying to spot them in the dark.
Around the same time, one person in a group of five hikers injured a foot on a trail to Maunawili Falls, Seelig said. Firefighters reached the group near the trail head and helped them out.
