Fujikawa fifth in eGolf tourney

Honolulu's Tadd Fujikawa closed with a 71 yesterday to finish tied for fifth at 10-under 278 at the eGolf Tour's Cabarrus Classic in Concord, N.C.

Fujikawa pocketed $8,083 to move up to 12th place on the money list with $11,660 through three events on this mini-tour. The 19-year-old graduate of Moanalua High School finished five shots off the winning pace of Jason Kokrak, who fired a 66 yesterday.

Fujikawa carded two birdies on the front, before bogeying the ninth to shoot a 35. He had two bogeys and two birdies on the back nine, including one at the 18th.

 

Aloha Stadium GM to speak at QB Club

Scott Chan and Ryan Hogue will speak at the next Honolulu Quarterback Club meeting at noon tomorrow at Maple Garden Restaurant.

Chan is the general manager of Aloha Stadium and will discuss the latest details on the $100 million renovation. He will also chat about the parking issue and the upcoming drive-in theater.

Hogue, Academy of the Pacific athletic director and assistant dean of students, will visit the Honolulu Quarterback Club for the first time. He will discuss the recent achievement of the AOP boys basketball team, which advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament.

 

UH women's tennis snaps losing streak

The University of Hawaii women's tennis team returned home with a welcome 5-2 victory over Air Force. The Rainbow Wahine had dropped their last three matches before improving to 3-11 overall after 11 consecutive matches on the road.

UH won four of six singles matches, including the No. 1 through No. 3 positions. Sophie Kobuch defeated Air Force's Christen Monreal 6-2, 6-1; Katarina Poljakova swept Tahlia Smoke 6-1, 6-3; and Barbara Pinterova dominated Sarah Cassman 6-1, 6-1 in the third singles match. Natasha Zorec clinched the No. 5 match for the Rainbow Wahine with a score of 7-5, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (2) against Christine Molina. UH also picked up two out of three doubles matches.

Seasiders tennis undefeated

The third-ranked BYU-Hawaii women's tennis team blanked Lewis & Clark College yesterday 9-0 for its 13th straight win. The Seasiders won all three doubles matches and swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Next up is a home match vs. Cal State-Los Angeles tomorrow at 2 p.m.

 

Silverswords swept in softball

Chaminade (13-15, 10-10) dropped a pair of conference games yesterday to Grand Canyon University, 10-0 and 7-3.

The first game saw Grand Canyon (22-4, 12-4) use a two-run second inning to break open a close game, before adding five insurance runs in the fourth.

Game 2 was tied at 1-1 before the 'Lopes scored three runs in the fifth to pull away for the series sweep.

Chaminade travels to Dixie State College in St. George, Utah, for a pair of doubleheaders, starting tomorrow.
