Isle congregations to observe Passover
POSTED: Saturday, March 20, 2010
Hawaii Jewish congregations will begin the eight-day observance of Passover next weekend. The traditional celebration includes a communal banquet at which ritual foods are served to symbolize the story of the first Passover 3,000 years ago, when the Hebrew people escaped slavery in Egypt.
The holiday commemorates the story in the Book of Exodus about their liberation and the birth of the Jews as a people.
