Over the past six months, Helping Hands Hawaii has received more than $3 million in grants to expand services to the community.

President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Schatz said in a release, “;At a time when everyone is struggling and many have had to reduce services, we've expanded our impact to respond to the growing community need.”;

The money came from these sources:

» $2,130,000 from the state Hawaii Public Housing Authority for the Childcare Assistance Program.

» $500,000 from the city for the Homelessness Prevention & Rapid Re-Housing Program.

» $400,000 from the state Department of Human Services for emergency financial and school supply assistance through the Community Clearinghouse and Ready to Learn programs.

» $68,250 from the Human Services Department and the Hawaii Community Foundation to assist individuals and families gain access to food stamps.

» $50,787 from Aloha United Way for homelessness prevention services through the Community Clearinghouse.
