Don't expect the Punahou Buffanblu to rest on their laurels.

After winning the Best of the West volleyball tournament in Poway, Calif., over the weekend, they're right back to work.

Punahou, ranked No. 1 in the Star-Bulletin Boys Volleyball Top 10, knocked out the nation's top two teams—No. 1 Mira Costa and No. 2 Loyola—to take the Best of the West title.

“;I don't know if they're on cloud nine,”; coach Rick Tune said. “;It's a first step. The ILH is a constant battle. Nothing's guaranteed, especially with Kamehameha (tomorrow night).”;

Taylor Crabb, ailing from a basketball ankle injury, was named the tourney's most valuable player, and Henry Cassiday was named to the all-tourney team. Monster hitter Josh Taylor was also key, but Tune also enjoyed seeing his team grow as a unit.

“;From a playing perspective, we got to see how we measure up to mainland teams. On and off the court, having to work together,”; he said.

Another ILH contender, 'Iolani, also played in the mainland event.

The Raiders lost their first pool-play match, but the highlight was in the next match, a win over Palos Verdes (Calif.), which he said has five Division I commits.

“;We beat them in three and it was a true team win,”; he said. “;We saw Punahou a little bit, and they were awesome.”;
