UH stays at No. 5 in volleyball poll

The Hawaii men's volleyball team remained ranked No. 5 in the AVCA Division I-II Coaches Top 25 released yesterday.

Hawaii (12-7, 8-6 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation), which split its road matches at USC last week, hosts Long Beach State on Friday and Saturday. The 49ers (11-8, 7-5) were swept by Penn State on Saturday and traded places with the Nittany Lions in the poll; Penn State moved up to No. 6, while Long Beach State dropped to eighth.

The top four spots also remained the same, led by top-ranked Stanford, which received 15 of 16 first-place votes. Pepperdine received the remaining vote to stay at No. 2, followed by Cal State Northridge and Brigham Young.

 

Streaking BYUH wins 11th straight

Brigham-Young Hawaii routed Chaminade 9-0 in women's tennis yesterday at Central Oahu Regional Park.

Elwen Li, Yuan Jia, Ayako Ikeda, Shawni Porter, Jenny Chin and Salina Aranda all won in doubles and singles for the Seasiders, who are ranked No. 3 nationally in Division II.

The teams play again Thursday in Laie.

 

UH golfers in sixth place

Fresno State's Louisa Lies is at 2-under 142 and holds a six-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational golf tournament at the Kaneohe Klipper Golf Course.

Nova Southeastern leads the team field at 603, three strokes ahead of San Francisco.

Host Hawaii is in sixth place, 15 shots back. The Rainbow Wahine's Corie Hou is tied for eighth at 7-over 151.
