Ricketts leads UH to tourney title

Sophomore pitcher Stephanie Ricketts and the Hawaii softball team beat DePaul 4-1 to win the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium yesterday.

Ricketts earned her third win of the tournament and was named the most outstanding pitcher, while Hawaii outfielder Kelly Majam earned MVP honors for batting .375 with three home runs.

Jessica Iwata, Melissa Gonzalez and Jenna Rodriguez were named to the all-tournament team for UH.

Ricketts retired the first nine DePaul batters she faced, then scattered seven hits the rest of the way to earn her 11th complete game in 16 appearances. The only run she allowed was unearned.

Majam hit a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning, and Iwata and Kanani Pu'u-Warren drove in runs for the Rainbow Wahine.

Hawaii next hosts the Chevron Spring Fling, starting on Wednesday.

HPU splits with Dixie State

Bas Nooij drove in Sean Winston in the eighth inning to lead the Hawaii Pacific baseball team over Dixie State 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader at St. George, Utah, yesterday.

The Sea Warriors dropped the second game 3-2.

Pitcher Michael Greene earned the win for HPU in the first game and Caelen O'Meara took the loss in the second.

HPU (14-4, 8-2 PacWest) and Dixie State (11-7, 6-4) continue their series with a doubleheader today.

Sea Warriors suffer second loss

Dominic Mclusky and Anton Samuilau won their singles matches, but the Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team lost its second match of the season 6-3 to Barry (Fla.) yesterday in Las Vegas.

The Sea Warriors dropped to 13-2, while the Bucs improved to 12-1.
