HPD cites officers for heroic acts

Two police officers who pulled a man from a burning car were among several employees and citizens honored by the Honolulu Police Department.

Officers Jack Wright and Lisa Reed received the department's second highest honor—the Silver Medal of Valor—for pulling a man from a burning vehicle in December.

Officer Joseph Lefcourt was given the Bronze Medal of Valor for freeing a man trapped under collapsed scaffolding in Waipio in January. Officer Carla Kekauoha received a Certificate of Merit for performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the victim.

Officer Roland Pagan of the Kapolei district was recognized as employee of the fourth quarter of 2009.

The unit of the quarter is Narcotics/Vice's Morals and Gambling Details.

Officers James Easley and Sheri Taflinger, retired HPD Sgt. Rodolfo Cagulada and citizen Sean Castro each received a certificate of merit.
