A 58-year-old man remained in the hospital under observation yesterday after allegedly firing a hand-gun several times on the North Shore on Friday night.

Police said the man got into an argument with a parking lot attendant at Turtle Bay Resort about 5:30 p.m. Friday and pointed a gun at the attendant before fleeing.

A patrol officer near Sunset Beach located the man brandishing a handgun on Mamao Street, where he lives, police said.

He threatened the officer and fired the gun into the air several times, then ran into a neighboring garage and shot the door handle, police said.

The man surrendered to police shortly afterward and was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threatening and reckless endanger- ing, and a firearm charge.

Police recovered a 9 mm pistol and several shell casings on Kamehameha Highway, which was closed for about three hours for an investigation.
