City ocean safety officials have issued a box jellyfish advisory for Oahu beaches through noon today.

A large influx of box jellyfish was noticed on Oahu's South Shore yesterday, including Ala Moana Beach and Waikiki Beach.

“;Ocean Safety personnel would like to remind beachgoers to heed all warning signs,”; said Bryan Cheplic, public information officer for the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

More than 660 box jellyfish were seen on Waikiki Beach and 75 at Ala Moana Beach yesterday, prompting county Ocean Safety officials to issue an advisory.

The advisory extended through noon today but could be changed depending on ocean conditions.

People stung by box jellyfish are advised to flush the sting area with copious amounts of white vinegar.

Anyone experiencing symptoms such as breathing difficulty, muscle cramps and persistent pain is advised to seek immediate medical attention.
