Softball honor to UH's Ricketts

Hawaii sophomore Stephanie Ricketts was named the Western Athletic Conference pitcher of the week yesterday, the third weekly honor of her career and first of this season.

Ricketts (4-5) made four appearances last week as the Rainbow Wahine finished second in their Bank of Hawaii Invitational. She had a 1.56 ERA, with a season-high 10 strikeouts in the 9-1 win over Seattle.

Wahine golfers 13th in tourney

Freshman Ka'ili Britos shot a 3-over-par 147 yesterday to help the Hawaii women's golf team to 13th place through two rounds of the 16-team Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational at San Jose, Calif.

San Jose State leads the team standings thanks in part to the Spartans' Christina Corpus. She is in first in the medalist race at 1-under 143. The tournament concludes today.

HPU women to NCAA regional

The Hawaii Pacific women's basketball team will make its postseason debut Friday against Seattle Pacific in the NCAA West Regional in Seattle.

The Sea Warriors (18-6, 14-2) concluded the Pacwest season last night with an 88-61 win over Brigham Young-Hawaii (9-17, 5-11) at Blaisdell Arena.

Vulcans take 2 from Penguins

Amanda Tellez's three-run homer capped a nine-run fourth as Hawaii-Hilo completed the sweep of a PacWest softball doubleheader with a 14-0 victory in the second game against Dominican yesterday at the UHH field.

The Vulcans shut out the Penguins in the first game 8-0, with Nicole Alconcel's two-run double in the bottom of the fifth giving UHH the eight-run margin to end the contest via the mercy rule. The second game ended after Dominican's at-bat in the top of the fifth, again on the mercy rule.

The Vulcans (10-5, 6-4 PWC) combined for 25 hits against the Penguins (1-6, 1-3).

Dominican had two hits in the two games, both coming in the nightcap.

» The Chaminade softball team split a pair of games with Notre Dame de namur yesterday at Central Oahu Regional Park.

Chaminade rallied to win the opener. After the Argonauts took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning, the Silverswords scored two runs in the bottom half.

The second game was scoreless through the regulation seven innings before Notre Dame de Namur posted two runs in the top of the eighth for a 2-0 win.
