First Wind said yesterday the funds would finance the construction of 12 wind turbine generators that would supply 7,700 households with electricity.

The construction phase of the project is forecast to create 200 jobs. The wind power plant would create between six and 10 full-time positions.

The project is in its final permitting stages. Construction will begin after the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission approves the project and funding guarantees are in place.

Federal stimulus funds are paying for the loan.

Hawaiian Electric Co. will buy and manage the electricity generated at the plant.
