WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
» UNLV sophomore Jamie Smith ('Iolani '08) posted a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, including seven on the offensive glass, to help the Lady Rebels defeat Air Force 69-55 on Saturday. Smith was 5-for-11 from the field, including 2-for-3 from 3-point range and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, in 38 minutes.
» Idaho sophomore Shaena Kuehu (Punahou '08) shot just 3-for-17 from the field for seven points, but had a season-high eight steals in a 54-53 win over Utah State on Saturday.
BASEBALL
» Northwestern sophomore Paul Snieder (Punahou '08) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and pitcher Michael Jahns (St. Anthony '08) picked up the win with an inning of shutout relief in the Wildcats' 6-5 win over Connecticut on Friday in the Big Ten/Big East Challenge in Clearwater, Fla. Snieder also pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing no runs on two hits with three walks and one strikeout.
» Puget Sound senior Jarvis Nohara ('Iolani '06) went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs in the Loggers' opening game of the Jim Doran Auto Classic in McMinniville, Ore. Nohara pitched 2 2/3 innings of shutout ball in a 5-3 win over Whitman on Sunday. UPS finished 2-2 in the tournament.
» Colorado School of Mines junior Nick Wong (Roosevelt '07) went 2-for-5 with a run scored in an 8-6 loss to Nebraska-Kearney in 10 innings on Sunday. Wong is batting .393 (11-for-28) for the season with a home run and six runs scored.
MEN'S GOLF
» Pacific (Ore.) junior Max Bonk (Hawaii Prep '07) earned medalist honors at the Pacific Invitational on Sunday in Banks, Ore. Bonk struggled to an opening-round 76, but fired a 5-under 67 on Day 2 to claim the individual title and lead the Boxers to the team title.
WOMEN'S GOLF
» UCLA sophomore Stephanie Kono (Punahou '08) shot a final-round 2-over 74 to finish in third place at the Bruin Wave Invitational yesterday in Santa Clarita, Calif. Kono finished the tournament with a 4-under 212, leading the Bruins to a third place finish in the team standings.
» Santa Clara junior Miki Ueoka (Kauai '07) finished sixth at the Fresno State Lexus Classic on Tuesday after shooting a final-round 6-over 78 in Fresno, Calif. Boise State senior Iris Ocariza (Moanalua '06) finished in a tie for 18th place, sophomore Tammy Surtees (Hawaii Prep '08) finished tied for 23rd and senior Jamie Nonaka (Punahou '06) tied for 61st.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
» Brigham Young middle blocker Futi Tavana (Kauai '05) had 14 kills and hit .619 with six block assists in a five-set loss to Hawaii on Friday. Tavana hit .750 (nine kills in 12 attempts, no errors) and had one solo block and four block assists in Hawaii's three-game sweep of the Cougars on Monday.
» Stanford sophomore Brad Lawson ('Iolani '08) had 27 kills and only four hitting errors in a four-game victory over Pacific (Calif.) on Friday. Lawson is averaging 7.0 kills per set in his last two conference matches. Junior Spencer McLachlin (Punahou '07) had 14 kills and senior setter Kawika Shoji ('Iolani '06) had 61 assists for the Cardinal.
