Diagnostic Lab moving headquarters

Diagnostic Laboratory Services Inc. is relocating its main clinical testing laboratory from Iwilei to a new 84,000-square-foot facility it is building in Halawa.

The $20 million renovation of the former Panasonic warehouse in Halawa will enable Diagnostic Laboratory to expand its main clinical testing laboratory by 10,000 square feet.

In addition, a combined photovoltaic and diesel generator system will help contribute to the state's sustainability goals and ensure 24-hour, seven-days-a-week power for the laboratory.

The partnership for the renovation includes Allied Builders System as the general contractor, Architects Hawaii Ltd. for the new laboratory and headquarters and Hoku Solar Inc. for the design, engineering and installation of the photovoltaic system.

Walmart Foundation offering grants

The Walmart Foundation's Hawaii State Giving Program is accepting grant applications from nonprofit organizations across the state. Organizations may apply online at http://www.walmartfoundation.org. The minimum award for each grant is $25,000.

The foundation is focused on funding community programs, especially those that address hunger, homelessness, education, job training and other basic needs. Organizations must currently operate under the tax-exempt status Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Castagnaro exiting education council

Kristine Castagnaro, executive director of the Hawaii Council on Economic Education, is stepping down after eight years with the council to take a position with Hawaii International Child, the agency that helped Castagnaro and her husband when they adopted their youngest daughter. Her last day on the job will be Friday.

Melanie Nagasako will serve as interim director until a replacement can be found.

The Hawaii Council on Economic Education oversees the Hawaii Stock Market Simulation program, which kicked off its spring campaign last week with 1,800 students grades 3 through 12 testing their investment skills in school-supervised competition.

Tori Richard opens at Whalers

Tori Richard Ltd., a Honolulu-based resort apparel designer and manufacturer, has opened a store in Kaanapali, Maui, at Whalers Village, the company's sixth store in the state. Other stores are at the Shops at Wailea on Maui, and on Oahu at Ala Moana Center, the Royal Hawaiian, Hyatt Regency Waikiki and Hilton Hawaiian Village.

  Kalama Heights Retirement Community has rehired Suzanne E. Antounian as manager. She was a manager and marketing and enrichment manager for the company as well as manager at Desert Falls Country Club's food and beverage department and director of events and member relations at 5-Star Golf Resort.
