ANSWER: Long hours in the crate can lead to social and isolation problems, and he might no longer feel that his crate is his sanctuary. Better to try to correct the issues that lead you to want to crate him during the day. When you are home, he needs to be with you. His crate should be kept in the room where the family spends most of its time.
