High winds buffeted the islands yesterday as the National Weather Services also posted warnings for high surf.
Northeast winds of 25 to 30 mph, with higher gusts, were forecast to continue through 6 p.m. today. The weather service urged motorists to be careful, especially those in big or “;high profile”; vehicles.
Mariners were warned of high winds and 11-foot swells around the islands through tomorrow afternoon.
The high-surf warning, in effect until 6 a.m. tomorrow, covers the north and west shores of Kauai and Niihau and the north shores of Maui and Molokai. Waves of up to 25 feet are expected.
Surf up to 20 feet is expected along the west shores of Oahu and Molokai, bringing battering waves and dangerous swimming conditions, the weather service said. The Kohala and Kona coasts were under a less serious high-surf advisory, with waves up to 9 feet due.
