POSTED: Sunday, February 28, 2010
Yesterday's tsunami threat wiped out almost all of the sports events scheduled in Hawaii.
The University of Hawaii initially canceled or postponed all events, including a men's volleyball match against Brigham Young at the War Memorial Gym in Wailuku and the men's basketball game against Nevada, the latter of which was restored about 4 hours before the 7:05 p.m. tip-off.
Other events affected by the tsunami warning:
» The baseball game vs. Oregon will be made up as part of a doubleheader today beginning at 1 p.m., with the second game starting 30 minutes after the first game ends. Fans with tickets to today's regularly scheduled game will have rights to their seats for the 1 p.m. game, but must move to unoccupied seats for the second game. The stadium will not be cleared between games.
» The HHSAA wrestling state championship matches at Blaisdell Arena were postponed until today. Weigh-ins will begin at 7 a.m. at the Blaisdell Arena. Matches will begin after weigh-ins at about 8:30 and will continue until completed. There will be no breaks between matches.
» All Interscholastic League of Honolulu events were postponed, including the Kamehameha vs. Honokaa boys basketball state tournament play-in game at Honokaa High School. The game will played tomorrow at 4 p.m.
» The UH women's soccer team's six-on-six tournament scheduled for yesterday at the UH practice fields was canceled.
» Hawaii Pacific canceled its women's softball doubleheader against Dixie State and the men's and women's PacWest basketball games against Brigham Young-Hawaii at the Mid-Pacific Institute gym.
Those games have not been rescheduled yet.
» In Hilo, a men's and women's basketball doubleheader between Hawaii-Hilo and Chaminade was postponed, as was a Hawaii-Hilo tennis match against Brigham Young-Hawaii. None of those events have been rescheduled yet.
