Kaufman wins WAC high jump
Hawaii's Amber Kaufman successfully defended her high jump title at the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships yesterday in Nampa, Idaho.
Kaufman cleared 6 feet to win her fourth career gold medal in WAC meets. UH sophomore Sarah Saddleton finished second with a jump of 5 feet, 8 inches.
The Rainbow Wahine placed fifth in the team standings with 61.5 points. Louisiana Tech won its fifth straight WAC indoor title with 175 points.
Kaufman will next compete in the NCAA Indoor championships, March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
No. 2 Arizona beats Hawaii
The Hawaii softball team closed the Cathedral City Classic with an 8-3 loss to No. 2 Arizona yesterday in Cathedral City, Calif.
UH (9-6) took the lead in the second inning on a solo homer by Jenna Rodriguez, but the Wildcats scored six runs in the fourth, highlighted by Brigette Del Ponte's grand slam off UH starter Kaia Parnaby.
UH's game against No. 9 Oklahoma was canceled due to rain earlier in the day.
Coolen to speak at QB club
Bob Coolen and Stephen Tsai are the guest speakers for tomorrow's Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon meeting at Maple Garden Restaurant.
Coolen is the University of Hawaii's softball coach. Tsai is the UH football beat writer for the Honolulu Advertiser.
The public is invited.
UH men second in C-USA
For the third consecutive year, the Hawaii men's swimming and diving team finished in second place at the Conference USA championships yesterday in Houston.
The Rainbow Warriors scored 833 points, 38 shy of champion SMU.
The Rainbow Warriors placed second in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Sean Reilly, Mark Higley, Ilia Reyes and Davis Kane clocking in at 2:57:25.
In the individual races, UH's Douglas Cohen finished first in the platform diving final with a score of 327.55. The victory goes along with his second-place finishes in the 1-meter and 2-meter events.
Teammates Thomas Rugg and Freddie Menzel finished in third and fourth place in platform diving.

Boise State claimed the WAC title for the first time with 547 points, 91 points ahead of runner-up San Jose State.
UH junior Stephanie De Lima became the first WAC athlete to win all three diving events at the championship meet.
De Lima was also named the WAC diver of the year, and Rainbow Wahine coach Mike Brown was chosen as the league's diving coach of the year.
