Delivering more of what you want
POSTED: Sunday, February 28, 2010
Beginning tomorrow, the Today section will look a little different in our aim to deliver more of the news you've told us you wanted in reader surveys, including more stories about living green, personal technology and staying fit—in mind and body—at every age.
We'll continue to offer news on food, fashion, entertainment, arts and culture.
Look for our daily themed sections as follows:
» Monday Home: Look for ways to spruce up your home, inside and out. We'll explore ideas for freshening things up, from do-it-yourself projects to home decor. Nina Wu will be writing a monthly column, “;The Green Leaf,”; on eco-friendly ways to live. Also, to help you navigate through the app jungle for smart phones, we'll launch App Attack, featuring a brief review of new or popular apps each week. We also invite your input. If you have a favorite app, follow our format and tell us all about it in three or four paragraphs.
» Tuesday Well: The focus is on health, with a column highlighting healthful recipes, and a feature called Training Day, in which personal trainer Reggie Palma will be offering a quick, realistic tip for getting started on a fitness routine, along with ways to measure your progress for the week. We'll also be introducing a new column by Christy Yee, “;Marathon Ambition,”; who will be talking about the trials and tribulations of training for her first Honolulu Marathon this year. And in the months ahead we'll hear from the medical professionals of HMSA, who will share the latest health information and news on preventive care in the hope of raising Hawaii's wellness profile into the nation's top 10 states. According to their statistics, we're currently in the middle of the pack.
» Wednesday Food: We will continue to focus on what's happening in the local food community, and on the food scene nationally and internationally, with more emphasis on recipes that home cooks can prepare using ingredients grown or raised locally. The popular columns “;Weekly Eater”; by Nadine Kam and “;By Request”; by Betty Shimabukuro are other staples on Wednesdays.
» Thursday Style: We will continue to cover a mix of local and international fashion through feature stories and weekly features introducing what's new in local boutiques and the latest in beauty products.
» Friday HiLife: Turn to HiLife every Friday for comprehensive coverage of weekend events and the local entertainment and bar/nightclub scenes, plus John Berger's “;On the Scene”; party photos and “;Island Mele”; local music reviews, and Jason Genegabus' three-dot column, “;In the Mix.”;
» Saturday Kokua: Look for more of the helpful tips and columns in the Kokua section with the spotlight on the ever-popular, expanded “;Kokua Line”; column by June Watanabe.
» Sunday Arts & Culture: Adding to our regular weekly coverage of the visual arts, books and Jason Yadao's column “;Cel Shaded,”; we also will dedicate this day to the performing arts, television and film stories that originate in Hawaii and across the globe.
