Flags to fly at half-staff for Frank Fasi
POSTED: Friday, February 26, 2010
The Hawaii state flag will fly at half-staff at state and county buildings from sunrise to sunset Wednesday in honor of former Mayor Frank Fasi, who died Feb. 3 at age 89.
Gov. Linda Lingle also urged residents yesterday to display the flag at half-staff at their homes and businesses in memory of Fasi, Honolulu's longest-serving mayor.
An invitation-only memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Honolulu Hale. The public may watch from an area outside City Hall.
After the service, Fasi will lie in state until 6 p.m.
At 11 a.m. Thursday a funeral procession will begin at Nuuanu Memorial Park & Mortuary and go down Bishop and King streets past Iolani Palace, Honolulu Hale and the Fasi Municipal Building. The burial will be private.
Fasi was mayor for six terms over a 26-year period. He also was elected to the Territorial Senate in 1958 and the Honolulu City Council in 1964.
