Armed robber strikes at Tantalus lookout

A man described to be between 30 and 40 years old robbed a couple at a Tantalus lookout late Sunday night.

Police said a 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl were parked at a lookout on Tantalus at 10:28 p.m. when the man approached the driver and shone a flashlight into their faces.

The man then allegedly pointed a gun at them and demanded money or drugs, police said.

The man gave the suspect his cash, and the girl gave him her wallet, then the couple drove off, police said.

They drove to the Pali Longs Drug store to report the incident.

No one was injured, and police have not arrested anyone in the case, which has been classified as a first-degree robbery.

Homeless man charged in pipe attack on driver

Prosecutors have charged a 58-year-old homeless man for allegedly assaulting a 38-year-old driver with a pipe.

Leonard Webster was charged Wednesday with second-degree assault. His bail was set at $15,000.

Police said the younger man was driving his company vehicle and made a left turn on a green light in Kapahulu.

A man in his 20s walked in front of the vehicle, and the two men began to argue at about 7:50 a.m. last Tuesday.

Webster, who was watching the argument, allegedly grabbed a metal pipe from his shopping cart and hit the driver numerous times, injuring him.

Webster then allegedly punched and kicked the driver as the man in his 20s was beating him.

The victim then grabbed and held onto Webster until police arrived. Officers arrested him at 625 Kapahulu Ave. at 8:01 a.m. Tuesday on suspicion of second- and third-degree assault.

The other suspect fled before police arrived and has not yet been found.

Man working on roof seriously injured in fall

A man in his mid-30s who had been working on the roof of a Mapunapuna building fell yesterday afternoon through a closed skylight and landed some 30 feet below.

Capt. Terry Seelig said the worker remained conscious but received serious, life-threatening injuries in the fall.

The flat skylight was above a stairwell of a heavy construction equipment business on Auahi Street, Seelig said.

It was unclear what caused the fall, he said.

Firefighters treated the man until Emergency Medical Services arrived and transported him to a hospital.
