Liliha Seafood Restaurant served loyal customers one last time last night before closing its doors for good.

State business registration records show that Liliha Seafood Restaurant Inc. is owned by Hung Sum and Kit Tsing Lee.

Mrs. Lee declined to be interviewed, and her husband, who does the cooking for the restaurant, was unavailable—”;he's busy,”; an employee said. “;They're both busy, very busy.”;

One of the many longtime patrons who will miss the neighborhood icon at the corner of Liliha Street and Vineyard Boulevard is Pastor Grant Lee, who is not related to the owners.

“;A group of us is going over at 6 for our last supper,”; he said yesterday, with a winking reference to a slightly more well-known event.

The restaurant was incorporated in 1986, but Lee estimated it had been around for some 35 years.

“;I used to work up in Nuuanu back in the 1970s,”; he said. He left Oahu for “;a season and came back to the Nuuanu area in 1993 to take another job, and I resumed going back.”;

Whenever he needed a meal catered for the Hawaii Conference of the United Church of Christ, he would order food from the restaurant. “;They served lunch and dinner and the food is tasty,”; he said. His daughter describes the restaurant's mabo tofu as the best around.

Two reviews of the restaurant have been posted at Yelp.com, one in 2007, the other in 2008. Nic F. from San Francisco gave it two of five possible stars, saying, “;This place is decent, but most importantly, you can go there with all your aunties and all your cousins and your deaf gong gong (maternal grandfather) and no one will yell at you for being too loud.”;

Vince L. from Honolulu praised the eatery's large food portions, giving it three stars “;for awesome value and decent food.”;

Better reviews were posted by Jeannie D. at insiderpages.com and OregonKamaaina at honolulu.citysearch.com, giving the restaurant four of five and five of five stars, respectively.

“;In a word, yum!”; Jeannie said, saying she stopped in for a bite and wound up staying “;for a long while, chatting with the staff and patrons.”;

The kamaaina from Oregon “;dropped in with a party of eight, sat at a big Lazy Susan table, and enjoyed some of the best Chinese food I've had in years,”; and mentioned the chatty, friendly staff. “;Ate like a king for under $10 per person.”;
