UH volleyball up to No. 8
The Hawaii men's volleyball team moved up a spot to No. 8 in yesterday's AVCA Division I-II Coaches Top 15 poll.
The Warriors (8-5) return to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with matches this week against No. 4 BYU. The Cougars (9-4) also moved up a spot from last week's poll.
Pepperdine (7-4) jumped to No. 1, followed by Stanford and UCLA.
Wahine softball honored
Hawaii softball players Kelly Majam and Kaia Parnaby were named the Western Athletic Conference player and pitcher of the week yesterday.
Majam was 12-for-16 at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic last week, while Parnaby went 3-0 with a 2.06 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 17 innings.
It is the first award for both players.
UHH golf team in ninth
Dayna Bersamin shot a 6-over par 77 to finish the first day of the Lady Rattler Roundup in San Antonio yesterday.
The Vulcans are in ninth place, 49 strokes behind first-place Tarleton State. Whitney McAteer of Northeastern State and Tarleton's Melanie Tham are tied for medalist honors with a 1-over-par 73.
Wahine tennis loses
The Hawaii women's tennis team dropped the first match of its road trip 6-1 to host San Francisco yesterday.
The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 1-6 for the season and suffered their fourth straight road defeat.
They were swept in singles after taking two of the three doubles matches.
