The offseason continues to be a busy one for Hawaii women's volleyball.
The Rainbow Wahine have received oral commitments for the Class of 2011 from 6-foot outside hitter Jane Croson and 5-8 setter Monica Stauber.
Croson is a junior at Los Alamitos (Calif.) High and is a former teammate of Wahine redshirt freshman Kristiana Tuaniga and 2010 Wahine commit Emily Hartong. Croson is a two-time player of the year for the Long Beach Press-Telegram, co-league MVP and recently named to Volleyball magazine high school All-America team.
Stauber, a junior at Mater Dei, was an All-Orange County honorable mention selection last season. She also was named to the 16s All-America team at the Junior Olympics playing for Long Beach Mizuno.
Croson and Stauber have played beach volleyball together, competed in club and high school ball against each other, and they committed together to Hawaii on Saturday night.
“;It's going to be fun to play with so many friends,”; Croson said in a phone call yesterday. “;Our team came out for the Ann Kang (tournament) my freshman year and I fell in love with the school, the players and the coaches.
“;It was a hard decision, but I just love Hawaii and the fans.”;
Stauber said she also considered UC Irvine and other schools in California but fell in love on a visit a few years ago. Her team also competed in the Ann Kang tournament last year.
Hawaii is still in the process of hiring a replacement for associate coach Mike Sealy, who took the head job at UCLA. Wahine coach Dave Shoji said he hoped to have someone in place by next Monday.
