Joyce Wong, a registered nurse at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children, received the hospital's annual award to an employee who exemplifies the founders' mission of caring for Hawaii children.
Wong, a cancer survivor, is a nurse in the Pediatric Ambulatory Unit, where she cares for children with cancer and other blood-related disorders. She started Kapiolani's Healing Touch program and continues to train volunteers and oversee the program.
She is starting her 25th year at Kapiolani and mentored her daughter, Kristin Thompson, to become a children's oncology nurse at the hospital.
