WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

» UNLV sophomore Jamie Smith ('Iolani '08) was named the Mountain West Conference player of the week Monday. The 6-foot sophomore forward averaged a double-double in wins over New Mexico and San Diego State last week. She nearly pulled off a triple-double against the Aztecs, finishing with 14 points, 15 rebounds and a career-high eight steals on Saturday.

» Idaho sophomore Shaena Kuehu (Punahou '08) finished with 12 points, six rebounds and three steals and freshman Natasha Helsham (Aiea '09) had six points, three assists and two rebounds off the bench in the Vandals' 74-59 victory over Hawaii on Saturday.

» Concordia (Calif.) junior Nicole Fu (Maryknoll '07) was the only Lady Eagle in double figures with 10 points on 4-for-12 shooting in a 68-41 loss to No. 8 Point Loma Nazarene on Tuesday. Fu also had three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block in 30 minutes.

 

SOFTBALL

» East Carolina senior Marina Gusman-Brown (Pearl City '06) batted .583 (7-for-12) and drove in three runs as the Pirates finished 1-3 at the USF DeMarini Tournament in Clearwater, Fla. Charina Sumner (Kamehameha '06) went 3-for-12 with a double over the weekend and freshman Kai Clark (Kapolei '09) had two hits and drove in two runs.

» Purdue senior Liane Horiuchi (Kamehameha '05) hit .385 (5-for-13) with a double, home run, five runs scored and three stolen bases as the Boilermakers finished 1-4 in the ASU Kajikawa Classic over the weekend in Tempe, Ariz.

» Whittier (Calif.) College junior Kellie Canida (Kamehameha '07) is batting 5-for-12 (.417) with a home run and three RBIs and the Poets are 2-1 to start the season.

 

WOMEN'S GOLF

» Santa Clara junior Miki Ueoka (Kauai '07) shot a 2-over 73 in the final round of the Peg Bernard Invitational on Sunday in Palo Alto, Calif., to finish in seventh place. Ueoka opened with a 78 and finished with a two-day total of 9-over 151. Sophomore Tammy Surtees (Hawaii Prep '08) finished in a tie for 37th place with a 159 and senior Jamie Nonaka (Punahou '06) shot a 177 to finish in 59th place.

» Colorado senior Christine Kim (Waiakea '06) shot an even-par 71 on the final day of the Northrop Grumann Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif., on Feb. 10. Kim had the lowest final-round score of any golfer in the tournament and finished tied for 21st with a three-day total of 226.

 

WOMEN'S WATER POLO

» Occidental (Calif.) freshman Nanea Fujiyama (Kamehameha '09) scored four goals and junior Karie Nickle (Kamehameha '07) added two as the Tigers lost to Loyola Marymount 14-7 in the Roadrunner Invitational on Sunday in Bakersfield, Calif. The Tigers also lost to Pacific (Calif.) 17-4 on Saturday. Pacific's Dara Tawarahara ('Iolani '07) had a goal and two steals in the game.

» UC San Diego junior Hanalei Crowell (Kamehameha '07) scored three goals in a 9-8 loss to No. 11 UC Irvine on Saturday.
