Stanford's Brad Lawson, a 2008 'Iolani graduate, was named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division I-II men's national player of the week in volleyball Tuesday.

The 6-foot-7 sophomore outside hitter led the Cardinal to home victories over UCLA and defending national champion UC Irvine last weekend. He had 15 kills (.400 hitting percentage), five digs and two assists in a sweep of the Bruins. He followed that performance with 22 kills, nine digs and three blocks in a four-set victory over the Anteaters one night later.

Stanford jumped to No. 2 in this week's AVCA rankings and is in sole possession of second place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

Lawson is one of seven Stanford men's volleyball players with local ties. The others are Kawika Shoji ('Iolani '06), Spencer McLachlin (Punahou '07), Jordan Inafuku (Kamehameha '07), Max Halvorson (Punahou '07), Erik Shoji (Punahou '08) and Chandler Kaaa (Keaau '09).
