High school swimming and diving in Hawaii has been dominated by Punahou since it became a high school sport in the islands.

That tradition carried on this year at the HHSAA Local Motion Swimming & Diving Championships at the Hilo Aquatic Club, with the Punahou boys varsity team taking home the state title for the 42nd time. But a newcomer to the swimming and diving elite dethroned Punahou in the girls varsity division, as Kealakehe captured its first state title.

Kealakehe claimed the top spot, with victories from Madison Hauanio in the 200-yard individual medley and Alyssa Foo in the 100-yard back and with the girls 200-yard medley relay.

Punahou took home the state title on the boys side with a victory from Marc Okimura in the 100-yard breast and a win in the 200-yard free relay.

'Iolani sophomore Kacy Johnson won both the boys 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard free and 'Iolani senior Kevin Jones won the 200-yard free and 500-yard free and swimming on the first-place 400-yard free relay team.

On the girls side, senior Sammy Moody of La Pietra took home two titles in the 100-yard fly and the 200-yard free.
