Man dies after diving off police car onto road
A 49-year-old man died early Friday after he jumped off a police car and hit his head on the pavement in Waikiki, police said.
At 3:47 a.m., two witnesses saw the man climb onto a parked police car, stand on the roof, and do a swan dive onto Kalakaua Avenue, police said.
The man sustained head injuries and was taken to Straub Clinic and Hospital. He died at 5:11 a.m.
Police said there were no signs of foul play.
33 caught for alleged DUI in 9-hour period
Police arrested 33 people for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs in Honolulu during a nine-hour stretch that ended yesterday morning.
Between 8:20 p.m. Friday and 5:11 a.m. yesterday, officers booked four women and 29 men on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
One woman and six men were apparently repeat offenders, posting a higher bail of $1,000. The youngest alleged offender was a 19-year-old man who was stopped on H-2 freeway near Ka Uka Boulevard.
Man, 45, is charged for sex assaults on teen
Prosecutors charged a 45-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in Pearl City.
Diego Gonzalez was charged with four counts of first-degree sexual assault. The girl reported being sexually assaulted by Gonzalez from July 2002 to January 2004.
Police arrested Gonzalez on Thursday and he was charged later that day.
Soldier is arrested for November attack
Police arrested Friday a 23-year-old soldier who allegedly knocked out a 43-year-old man last year in a Wahiawa bar.
At about 2 a.m. Nov. 11, the older man was talking with a 25-year-old man when the soldier punched him in the head, knocking him unconscious, police said. The 25-year-old man tried to detain the suspect, but he ran away.
Through an investigation, officers found the suspect and arrested him Friday on suspicion of second-degree assault.
