Cyrus Belt's mother was in Circuit Court twice yesterday, once to learn the fate of the man accused of killing her toddler son, and a second time to answer to a charge that she robbed a man of $7,000.
Nancy Chanco, 35, pleaded not guilty to second-degree robbery. She remains free on $25,000 bail pending her trial later this year.
The charge stems from a Nov. 11 incident in which a man reported to police that Chanco allegedly took his money while they were in his vehicle at an area known as “;Castle Rock”; in Maunawili at about 1:19 a.m.
The man told police a car pulled in front of his, and two men left the vehicle. One argued with him while the other punched him. When he started his vehicle to get away, he said he felt Chanco reach into his pockets.
As he was driving on Auloa Road toward Kalanianaole Highway, he said Chanco removed the money from his pocket, then left his vehicle at the intersection. She then jumped into the other car, which sped away, the man said.
Police arrested Chanco Dec. 14 but released her later pending further investigation. They charged her Feb. 1.
