Man is sought in bank robbery
Police are asking for the public's help in finding the man who robbed the First Hawaiian Bank yesterday at 420 Ward Ave.
Police said the man entered the bank, approached a teller and demanded money. He fled on foot, heading mauka on Ward.
The suspect is described as 6 feet 2 inches tall, 175 pounds, wearing a black-and-white floral hat, a gray T-shirt, blue denim pants, white sneakers and a black ski mask.
Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cell phone.
Man's 4-story fall called an accident
A man who fell four stories from an apartment building on Akepo Lane in lower Kalihi died of multiple internal injuries due to the fall, and the incident was an accident, the city Medical Examiner's Office said.
Police said the 52-year-old man appeared to be locked out of his apartment at 955 Akepo Lane and was trying to enter the apartment from the fourth floor outside the building when he fell.
He was taken in critical condition to an area hospital, where he later died, police said.
The office did not release the man's identity yesterday.
Car fire victim was Big Island man
A man who died in a fiery car crash near Yokohama Bay last weekend was identified as Fumihiko Okuda, 69, of Waikoloa, Hawaii, the city Medical Examiner's Office said yesterday.
Okuda, who had been reported as missing, died of smoke inhalation and thermal injuries due to a car fire, the office said. The manner of his death was deferred pending further investigation.
A Honolulu CrimeStoppers report on Tuesday said Okuda was last seen Feb. 3 when he left the Big Island for Oahu, but did not check into his hotel room. He had not been seen or heard from since.
At about 7:30 p.m. Saturday, a passer-by found Okuda's rental car engulfed in flames below an oceanside cliff along Farrington Highway.
Authorities had said Okuda's body was burned so badly the gender could not be determined.
Man, 36, charged in knife slashing
A 36-year-old homeless man was charged yesterday with allegedly trying to kill two men with a knife who intervened during an argument he had with his girlfriend.
Marsian Aliwis was charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of second-degree attempted murder.
The two men approached in an attempt to mediate an argument Aliwis was having with his girlfriend Tuesday night.
Aliwis allegedly slashed the two men with a knife. The men suffered cuts on their bodies and were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Aliwis' bail was set at $75,000.
Hilo woman, 95, injured in house fire
HILO » A 95-year-old Big Island woman has been hospitalized after a house fire in Hilo.
Fire officials say a family member pulled the woman from the burning structure Wednesday afternoon.
She was treated by paramedics before being transported to Hilo Medical Center, where she was reported in guarded condition.
Officials estimate the blaze caused about $150,000 damage to the structure and its contents. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
