Maui Land names new president
Maui Land & Pineapple Co. has promoted a top executive to president and chief operating officer.
Ryan Churchill had served as senior vice president of corporate development since March 2007. Before that he was vice president of community development from November 2005.
Churchill is the third chief executive officer in six years to lead the company. Robert Webber resigned from the position in May.
Prior to joining MLP, Churchill worked for KPMG LLP in its real estate consulting group in Honolulu and with California-based homebuilder Fieldstone Communities.

IRS office open additional hours
The Honolulu Internal Revenue Service office will be open on Feb. 20 to answer questions on tax provisions, including a new allowance for $2,400 of tax-free unemployment compensation benefits.
More than 200 tax centers will be open that Saturday to assist taxpayers. Taxpayers seeking help should bring a photo ID, Social Security cards, all wage and earnings statements, interest and dividend statements, copies of last year's returns, bank information for direct debit or deposit, and any other information concerning income and expenses for 2009.
The office, which is at 300 Ala Moana Blvd., will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Hawaiian Hospitality stock splits
Hawaiian Hospitality Group, a public company focused on commercializing underused waterfront properties, has announced it effected a 10-for-1 forward stock split of its shares.
Each shareholder of record on Jan. 29 will receive nine additional shares for every outstanding share held as of that date. The payment date for additional shares was yesterday.
A forward stock split is when a company divides the number of shares it has into a greater number to increase liquidity, keeping the stock in a certain price range and giving indications that the stock might go up.
Furloughed workers get tech help
Cowabunga! Computers is offering remote support for all state employees experiencing Furlough Fridays.
The service, which costs $50, requires a broadband Internet connection and two to three hours of time depending on the fix needed.
The service will begin today and will include cleaning up a computer, repairing a slow computer, router configuration, e-mail configuration operating system errors and other solutions.

Nordic gets Kapolei mall
Nordic PCL has been selected as the general contractor for Phase 1 of a 1.5 million-square-foot Kapolei shopping center.
Hawaii DeBartolo LLC said the Ka Makana Ali'i will have two midpriced kamaaina/business hotels and office space.
The center will be built at the intersection of Kapolei Parkway and North-South Road. Phase 1 will be a neighborhood convenience center. Construction is expected to begin within a year to 18 months. The land is being leased from the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.
