POSTED: Friday, February 12, 2010
Former Mayor Frank Fasi's body will lie in state at Honolulu Hale all day on March 3 to give the public an opportunity to pay its respects.
The family of the late mayor suggests that instead of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Frank F. Fasi Charitable Foundation, 2054 Makiki St., Honolulu 96822. Donations are tax-deductible.
Fasi, 89, who served as Honolulu mayor for 22 years, died Feb. 3.
A memorial celebration will begin at 10 a.m. March 3. Seating inside City Hall will be reserved for the family and invited guests. The service will be broadcast on a large screen in a public viewing area outside. The body then will lie in state in the courtyard until 6 p.m.
Fasi, a former Marine, will be buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl, in a private service at a later date.
Mayor Mufi Hannemann ordered state flags on all city buildings to fly at half-staff until after the memorial service.
