The Honolulu Liquor Commission found a popular Waikiki bar and restaurant not guilty of another accusation of brutality by a bouncer against a customer.

The Shack Waikiki disputed an account that a bouncer choked a customer and dropped him on the ground, causing him to break his jaw on April 4.

“;You should always feel safe”; at the Shack, said Brendan Burchfiel, the bar's co-owner.

Karel Tresnak, a local paddling champion, testified before the commission yesterday that as the bar was closing at about 3:30 a.m. April 4, he saw two bouncers approaching him, and as he turned around, someone grabbed him, placing him in a choke hold, and carried him toward the entrance. The next thing he recalled was waking up on the ground fronting the Shack, covered in blood.

The Shack faced five violations of the same rule of failing to suppress violent activity on the premises, was fined $1,000 each for two of them last year and was exonerated in three cases.

Burchfiel said all of the accusations happened up to April, and the Shack has not had other violations since because it hired a security consultant and made improvements.

The Shack may be facing another lawsuit next week by a 30-year-old model who claims she was assaulted by Burchfiel's wife while in the Shack on Sunday, said attorney Michael Green.

The model, Justine Stevens, said people are harassing her to shut up.

“;I definitely want to make sure that everybody knows”; what is happening, she said.

Green said Stevens was at a modeling event at the bar, and after the event was over, she was held down and beaten up by the owner's wife. Stevens might have a broken nose and had two black eyes, he said.

“;It broke your heart,”; he said.

But Burchfiel said he has security cameras that show Stevens started the fight.

“;We have video that proves, that shows all that,”; he said.

Another local attorney, Michael Cruise, is representing three men who claim they were assaulted by employees of the Shack between fall 2008 and the first half of last year.

“;They were all badly hurt,”; he said.
