School notifies police of sex video

Kamehameha Schools has taken disciplinary action and notified police about a video containing sexual content that was distributed among Kapalama campus students via a social networking site, school President Michael Chun said in a written statement yesterday.
The school completed an internal investigation of the video, which was produced off campus, Chun said.
“;Where warranted, we have taken appropriate disciplinary action,”; he said. “;We have also reported this matter to police and will cooperate fully should they pursue their own investigation.
“;As is our practice, due to the privacy interests of the students involved, we will not be discussing details of the incident or the school's disciplinary measures.”;
Chun also sent out a letter to parents about the incident.
He said it is important “;to express our ongoing concern about the irresponsible use of social media tools.”;
“;Although we train every Kamehameha Schools student in the rules of responsible, ethical and appropriate use of the Internet, our society continues to learn about the possible legal ramifications of inappropriate use of these media tools. The consequences of poor choices can be devastating for the children and families involved, as well as for our school ohana and the community at large.”;
This is the second time this school year that police have been notified about possible sexual misconduct at the Kapalama campus.
Two 13-year-old middle school students were charged in September with the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl in the campus dorms. The school was criticized for not immediately reporting the assault to police.
At that time, Chun also cautioned students about inappropriate discussion of the incident on social networking sites.
In 2003, several Kamehameha Schools students, including football players, were expelled after reports surfaced of a videotape of football players having sex with a female student on campus.
Five of those students later sued the school over the expulsion.
