Toyota dealerships in Hawaii are expanding service to include the Prius model.

The automaker's latest recall affects 463 new model-year vehicles on Hawaii roads, the 410 Prius and 53 Lexus HS250. The Prius software repair is available at Hawaii Toyota dealers, while the Lexus fix is still in the works, according to Servco Pacific Inc.

The company owns Toyota dealerships in the state but also distributes Toyotas to other Hawaii dealerships through its Toyota Hawaii subsidiary.

Owners are encouraged to contact their dealership to schedule a service appointment. It takes about an hour to load the software into the electronic control unit, said Rick Ching, president of Servco Automotive.

All Toyota dealerships have extended service hours, and the bays at Servco Auto Honolulu in Mapunapuna have been operating around the clock since last week after the recall of 2.3 million vehicles for a problem with sticky gas pedals. Some 8,000 cars in Hawaii are covered by the recall.

Mechanics “;have completed repairs on more than 1,000 and are approaching 15 percent of the affected vehicles,”; Ching said.

Separately, Servco is monitoring reports of possible steering problems in 2009 and 2010 Corollas. Federal officials have logged about 80 complaints, but there is as yet no related recall.

Toyota is voluntarily recalling some 2010 four-cylinder Camry sedans due to possible brake line interference.

“;We are in the process of contacting those owners proactively to deal with that,”; Ching said.

“;Our people are working very hard. Their focus is on dealing with the recalls in a professional and customer-focused way,”; he said.
