Roosevelt escapes with win

Brandon Mitchell scored 20 points and Roosevelt beat Waianae 55-54 in an Oahu Interscholastic Association White Conference game last night.
Brandon Nakatani hit a free-throw to put the host Rough Riders up by three points late, and on the next possession Waianae missed two 3-point attempts.
The Seariders got the ball back with a chance to tie, but opted for a layup for two points at the buzzer.
The win pushed Roosevelt (10-1) past previously undefeated Waianae (9-1) in the conference.
Roosevelt's Kaipo Pale got into foul trouble early and Waianae got out to an early lead that ballooned to 12 points, 37-25, by halftime.
Roosevelt came back strong in the second half, scoring 30 points while holding Waianae to 17.
Mendonza led Waianae with 16 points.
