Ex-isle resident misses ad mark

Former Haleiwa resident Alana Littler's Doritos commercial wasn't one of the four that aired Sunday during the Super Bowl.

Though Littler didn't claim the top prize, her final-six commercial, “;The Smackout,”; created with her boyfriend, Brendan Hayward, did win $25,000 and a trip for the pair to the Super Bowl.

It was “;Underdog,”; created by Joshua Svoboda of Raleigh, N.C., that took the No. 2 spot in USA Today's Super Bowl Ad Meter, netting him a $600,000 first-place prize. (The No. 1 spot was worth $1 million, if it were a Doritos ad.)

The ad features a dog who sees a guy eating a bag of Doritos on a park bench (and refuses to share it), sneaks up behind him and puts his bark collar on the fellow to steal the chips. The ad was created on a shoestring budget of $200.

The four ads were narrowed down from six finalists chosen by Doritos for its annual “;Crash the Super Bowl”; competition, based on public voting.
